Dr. Frank Nigro became Superintendent/President of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in July 2024. His involvement with the district began in 1997, when he was hired as a full-time English instructor. His 15 years as an instructor were marked by leadership as a faculty coordinator and in international education, instructional technology implementation, and participatory governance. His work was recognized with an Excellent Educator Award in 2006 and the statewide Hayward Award in 2007.

In 2012, he entered administration as Dean of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ's division of Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics. He later served as Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Instruction from 2017 to 2024. As chief instructional officer, he worked to clarify student pathways and improve faculty evaluation processes and professional development.

The youngest of five, Dr. Nigro, was the first of his siblings to complete college, forging his path with the support of faculty mentors while working numerous jobs to pay for his way. Growing up in Paradise, California, he attended California State University, Chico, where he majored in English and minored in German. In 2026, Chico State recognized him with the Distinguished Alumni Award for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. He completed both his master’s and doctorate at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and studied for 2.5 years at universities in Mainz and Berlin, Germany. He has also lived for extended periods in Switzerland and Japan.

Despite having called many places home, Dr. Nigro says the North State has always been home in his heart, and he is deeply committed to his community. He and his wife are raising two children who attend school in Redding. He is proud to work at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, is passionate about its mission, and looks forward to helping every student achieve the same kind of educational transformation he experienced.
