Ï㽶ÊÓƵ

Should you decide to transfer to a four-year university after earning your degree here at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, it is important you verify that the classes you are taking will count at the university of your choosing. Meet with your academic counselor to make sure all of your courses are transferrable if you plan to attend a university.

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process where college faculty review and decide if courses from one school count toward admission, transfer credit, general education, or major requirements at another school. This helps students move smoothly from high school or another college to Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, or from Ï㽶ÊÓƵ to a four-year university. When you complete an "articulated course" at Shasta, it can count toward a university's admission or graduation requirements before you transfer. Ï㽶ÊÓƵ aims to remove obstacles to make transferring credits easier and to support students moving between schools.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s Articulation Officer helps create and keep updated agreements with other colleges and universities. These agreements make it easier for students to transfer credits. The officer follows the rules and guidelines in the California Articulation Policies and Procedures Handbook, a resource from the California Intersegmental Articulation Council, which is a group of professionals working to support student transfer between California colleges and universities.

Many colleges have articulation agreements, which define which courses they consider comparable. We have articulation agreements with University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and some accredited private and out-of-state colleges.

California Public Universities (CSU and UC)

Successful transfer planning involves developing an educational plan that includes completing articulated courses for major preparation and general education. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Counselor to develop an educational plan. You can make appointments through our Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Counseling.

General Education Advising Worksheets

This is for advising purposes only and not a student educational plan:

To learn more and view the GE patterns, please visit the following: General Education for Transfer.

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a single set of general education classes that California Community College (CCC) students can complete to meet the lower-level requirements for transferring to either the California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC) systems. This curriculum is managed by the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates (ICAS), which includes faculty from California's three public higher education systems.

International Coursework

International coursework may be applied to Cal-GETC if the international institution has United States accreditation. All other international coursework cannot be applied to Cal-GETC.

UC Credit Limitations

Every California Community College has a Transfer Course Agreement (TCA) with the University of California that specifies how many units of credit will be granted by the UC. Students should pay special attention to courses and units granted when applying the units to meet the 60 units for admission.

Courses Appropriate for CALGETC

Courses must be both CSU and UC transferable. Please visit for transferability.

External Examinations

For information on using Advanced Placement (AP) credit to fulfill GE requirements, view the AP Exam Credit Equivalency Chart. For information on using IB credit to fulfill GE requirements, view the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Examinations. CLEP cannot be used for Cal-GETC.

ICAS Approved Accreditors

  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

To Current and Prospective Students: The information provided in this system is meant to be used as a guide only for how your current or former courses from a previous institution will transfer to Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. This comprehensive database does not guarantee that all courses are listed. Course equivalences provided through TES are subject to change as institutions and updated courses are frequently added and amended.

Please schedule an appointment with a counselor as final decisions regarding transferable courses are contingent upon official transcript evaluations and your educational goal.

Ethnic Studies Resources for Students

  • What is the new Ethnic Studies Requirement?
    • Ethnic Studies offers students the opportunity to study the historical development and social significance of race and ethnicity in the United States and to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for success in an increasingly diverse environment.
  • Who needs to complete the new Ethnic Studies requirement?
    • Transferring to a CSU: Catalog year Fall 2021 or later.
    • Transferring to a UC: Catalog year Fall 2023 or later.
    • Local Associates: Catalog year Fall 2024 or later.
  • What courses meet the Ethnic Studies requirement?
    • ETHS 1- Introduction to Ethnic Studies
    • ETHS 5- Introduction to Asian American Studies
    • ETHS 11- Intersectionality of Race, Ethnicity, and Health

Between Fall 2025 and Fall 2027, California Community Colleges will adopt a statewide Common Course Numbering (CCN) system. This effort is designed to:

  • Streamline credit transfers between community colleges and the CSU/UC systems
  • Help students clearly identify transferable courses
  • Enhance transparency and consistency in course planning

This change will affect approximately 75–80 of the highest volume transfer courses, standardizing course numbers, titles, and descriptions across the state.

For more information, go to Common Course Numbering CCN.
